The foods we put into our bodies contribute to so many things in our lives – energy, health, longevity, mental state, etc. I never understood the power of foods until after I graduated college when I watched the documentary, “What The Health?” and “Forks Over Knives” on Netflix. (I highly recommend watching both, btw).
I had an old boss who was pescatarian, meaning she did not eat meat but did eat fish, and I remember her telling me about a book she read that changed her diet. The book was, “Skinny Bitch“. Well, I read that book too and it only further enhanced my desire to cut certain foods out of my diet.
When I first transitioned to my healthy eating lifestyle I was shopping at stores such as Aldi and Lidl simply because I had always been told these were cheaper options. I quickly discovered that cheaper was not always the case, and so began my love affair with Whole Foods.
Why Whole Foods?
My obsession with Whole Foods started one day after visiting Lidl and realizing I had spent about $75 on my groceries for the week that only consisted of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and super food snacks. I thought, “Hmm, I wonder how much all of this would be elsewhere?”
I first tried Whole Foods because I was able to order it through my Amazon account and schedule either delivery or pickup for my order. Another main reason I chose Whole Foods was because of how close it is to my apartment – like literally 6 minutes away. (perks of city living)
Additionally, I trust Whole Foods because most of their organic products come from different states in America (aka: not China). I do highly suggest checking any food product or beverage before purchasing as it is crucial to understand that all organic products are not of the same quality.
2 Week Healthy Meal Plan
I try to eat as healthy as possible but I do indulge in desserts, bacon, chik-fil-a, etc. on occasion. (treat yourself is what I like to say)
The 2 week healthy meal plan was created after I realized how many people were asking me “So, what do you eat?” I chose decently priced foods with the hopes of encouraging those on a budget and I tried to incorporate some meals twice with the understanding that one loaf of bread will rarely be eaten in one sitting (unless you’re feeding a large family, of course).
Please note that I also left Saturday’s and Sunday’s off of the menu. This was purposeful as these days are meant for leftovers or to enjoy the night out at a restaurant…did I mention ‘treat yourself’? 😉
